Ghana uses Greenwich Mean Time all year, UTC+0, with no daylight saving changes. That means the standard forex session clocks, which are usually quoted in GMT, apply to you directly. You do not have to add or subtract an hour twice a year, which removes a common source of confusion for beginners elsewhere.

The four sessions you will hear about most are Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York. They run in a relay: as one closes, another opens, and for part of the day two are open at once. The busiest stretch for most pairs is when London and New York share the market.

The Session Times You Will Actually See on Your Chart

In Ghana time, Sydney runs from 22:00 to 07:00 GMT. Tokyo follows from 00:00 to 09:00 GMT. London opens at 08:00 and closes at 17:00 GMT. New York runs from 13:00 to 22:00 GMT.

Notice how Tokyo and Sydney overlap in the small hours, and how London and New York overlap from 13:00 to 17:00 GMT. If you trade in the evening after work in Accra, you are usually in the New York session. If you trade before your day starts, you are more likely in the Tokyo or Sydney window.

The London and New York Overlap Is the Busiest Window

The 13:00 to 17:00 GMT stretch is when London is still open and New York has just begun. Two major financial centres are active at once, so more participants are usually in the market. For many traders this is the window with the most movement and the clearest price action.

That activity cuts both ways. More movement can mean more opportunity, but it can also mean faster swings and wider ranges. If you are early in your learning, watching this window on a demo account first is a sensible way to see how your chosen pair behaves before you commit real money.

Which Window Suits You Depends on Your Day, Not Just the Clock

The best session is the one you can actually watch. A trader who works a full day in Accra may only be free from the evening, which points to New York hours. Someone who studies early may prefer Tokyo. Forcing yourself to trade at 3am because a book said London is best rarely ends well.

Before funding anything, check the broker against the SEC Ghana licensed operators list at sec.gov.gh. Forex bureaux are licensed separately by the Bank of Ghana, and online leveraged brokers are a different question, so it is worth checking both. Also confirm the deposit and withdrawal methods on the broker's own funding page, since MTN Mobile Money, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money, bank transfer and card are not offered everywhere in the same way.

Choosing a Session Is a Small Decision You Can Test

Pick one session, one or two pairs, and note how they move during your chosen hours for a few weeks. This is not about predicting anything. It is about learning the rhythm of the market at the time of day you can realistically show up.

Write down what you see: quiet stretches, sudden moves, and how long trends tend to last. Over time this record tells you more about your own trading than any general rule about sessions. Keep the process slow and the position sizes modest while you learn.
